Remakes are part of the grand tradition of storytelling.  Since time immemorial, storytellers have gathered around campfires and retold stories that were passed on to them from their fathers and grandfathers. 

Remakes helped birth the horror genre.  Nosferatu - one of the earliest vampire films was a re-imagining/remake of Bram Stoker's book Dracula.  The first filmed version of Dracula was merely an adaptation of the play to film.  In the late Fifties and Sixties - an entire studio was built on the shoulders of remakes with Hammer Studios.  In fact at that time - those Hammer remakes saved the classic Universal monsters from being caricatures of their once terrifying selves as they had devolved into comedic sidekicks in the Abbott and Costello film series.  The Hammer remakes served to not only make those characters terrifying again - but they served as paradigm shifting works that moved horror into the realms of gore and sex. 

Greetings, all. I just wanted to pop in and share something special with you. This past weekend at the American Zombie festival with George A. Romero, Michael Felsher of Redshirt pictures treated us with a special sneak preview of Romero's latest zombie flick simply titled “. . . Of The Dead.” Someone at the screening recorded it and posted it to Youtube for the rest of you to enjoy. And - no – that someone was not us. Thanks to Mr. Felsher for sharing the video with us and for asking the best question of the weekend.

Is anyone else thrilled that they found Bigfoot in Georgia? Of course it was disproven already – but at least somebody found something they thought was Bigfoot. Even though it wasn't THE Bigfoot, it was a FAKE Bigfoot. That's good enough for me. Just the other day I was lamenting the fact that no one had tried to find Bigfoot in a while. Wham. Bam. Thank you Bigfoot! I'm thrilled to see his return to the headlines. In this day and age of the Internet and instant media – Bigfoot still captured the public's consciousness. For some reason that makes me happy.

In my quest to keep MVP at the cutting edge of modern horror – I have traveled to feed at the altar of Internet Geekdom on the IMDb Horror Board. Apparently, the IMDb Horror Board is hosting a Horror Board Film Contest for independent filmmakers. The entries are all very interesting. They range from exploitation style brutal horror in This Side of the Nightmare to surrealist horror with Pain With Death and Epic3 and there's even a ghost tale with Laura's Death. Among the Fallen is not an entry into the contest as it is an unfinished work, but the director Jay Skitstar posted this trailer along with some behind the scenes videos on the Horror Board so I thought it fit in nicely as a companion piece for viewing the contest films.

A few months ago, MVP posted a review of Terror In The Pharaoh's Tomb by our good friends over at Midnight Marquee. They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flatery.
