An Actual Band

Re Zak McClendon, ‘we’ve kind of moved into real band territory. I say this because that magical fourth member with enough ability and most importantly the passion to move it forward seems to be something Zak has brought to the table. He literally brought 4 spectators to our first informal acoustic show and they were clearly there just to hear the music. Me being a song writer, THAT always impresses me.

Who knows what tomorrow will bring but suffice to say that for now, Zak is doing what it takes to get it done. It is exciting to have someone so excited about playing live around again. Yesterday it occurred to me that our last names can be arrange thusly. BMF. For now we are considering calling yourself that when we do these acoustic shows.

Enter Manly Hanley

I want to document the sheer serendipity that occurred when a young fella walked into our store about a month or so back and asked me about how one goes about recording with my friend Eddie Snugs at his studio. We talked for a few minutes about music when I realize that apart from being 25 years apart in age we did indeed have a quite a lot in common. I brought them upstairs to my create space and stood there for an hour showing them my film making clips and the deep crevasses of my original Youtube channel.

Before they had left I invited him to the recently started band’s practice that Sunday to play some keys.

Manly Hanley
Harrison Foreman aka Manly Hanley

That evening I visited his epic Manly Hanley Youtube channel and legitimately watch it for over an hour, barely scratching the surface.

Since then I’ve logged in often to better get to know this wild man force of nature that has entered my life. I’ve literally never encountered a 25 year, half my age that I have so much in common with. I’m talking generally interests, passion for music, taste in movies.

I’ve already looped him into my first official producing gig on Ansel Brown’s new record and he’s been a major contributing force to that.

You know, I had to let someone go recently who really proved themselves to not have my best interests at heart and a break a continuous cycle of (at the very least emotional abuse) from a person I considered a friend for 17 years. This was a person I only really had one or two interests in common with. God’s timing is always perfect.

You’ll be hearing more about this talented young man as the posts come I am sure. For now I am really grateful to be working with such a generally nice guy and talented musician. Working with people like this just makes me better.

Brent Bowers, Ansel Brown, Dave Harper, Harrison Foreman

God is great and I just wanted to post and express that.

Here’s a little something we put together last night. It’s only half finished so take it for what it is.

The First Update In A While

Well, let the record show that it has been sometime since either a MeWe Monday post or a news post of any kind on this website.

The only real purpose for this site is really to serve as a journal or photo/ video record for myself or family on down the line. Much like the permafrost it will last a long, long time so long as the conditions are and the hosting is paid, I guess.

Listening to Ready Player One, and now Ready Player Two puts me in mind to think about legacy. Even if I live to a ripe old age, God willing, I’d like for there to be an online place for my children and grandchildren to look to in order to see different aspects of my living years than what we shared Mano e Mano.

A Fun Friday Evening

Well, we had a great time last night in Gold Hill. We ate at the new improved Mama T’s where I not only caught a song or two from Blues Bob, but also reconnected with an old music buddy, Lawrence Frick.

We continued on from here to the General Store where we caught a little bluegrass jam where I was able to connect with some very talented players. A good evening indeed.

Reservoir Park in Southern Pines

Today I traveled with my mother to Southern Pines for a consult for an upcoming cataract surgery she will be having down there next month. As her visit was projected to last 2 to 3 hours, I took the opportunity to go walked the 2 mile trek around a nearby park, Reservoir Park.

The entire place was just beautiful and I was amazed to see tons of squirrels and birds frolicking as if it were spring. It was probably around 62 degrees and very comfortable for walking in a T-shirt. I strolled leisurely and stopped to take a few HDRI photos with my 360 camera, avoid the occasional passers by.

Late Summer 2020 Update

Well, an actual year has gone by since my last post, and what a year it has been. The biggest news is that everything in my life has changed. I now have a glaring purpose that supersedes everything else. Of course that is to spoil this little lady, Delilah!

If you think I really love this job, then you’d be entirely correct.
